»SILENCE, Erfurt, 2021«

A sound image from the Augustinian monastery in Erfurt

I realised "SILENCE" with the Area-Composers on behalf of Hendrik Wendler, Genius Loci, Weimar.

As part of the series "Der andere Advent" (The Other Advent) at the Augustinerklosters Erfurt, we composed a 30-minute sound-image installation for a 270° projection that loops seven times. The projection surface is 60 × 19 metres. For the sound we used the church's loudspeaker system.

The composition is made up of 5 parts that seamlessly merge into each other. The image composition is designed as a flowing triptych, with the opposite sides partly entering into a dialogue or playing the entire width simultaneously; and the sound composition works in the same way.

 

Invitation to Erfurt

The video consists of images of the Augustinerkirche, partly in motion, partly sharp and larger than life, and images from Erfurt, recorded on 4 days in September 2021. The sound is a composition of field recordings from Erfurt, live recordings in the church and electronically generated sounds.

The whole thing ran at St. Augustine's Church from November 27, 2021 to January 6, 2022.
